C-Prints

The photo series Movement was shot inside the Green Vault [Grünes Gewölbe] of the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) using a selection of photographs from the Archive of the Avant Gardes (AdA). The series juxtaposes photographs that Gruber found in the AdA under the name “Demos” or “Protests,” taken in West Germany before 1989, with real precious red corals that normally decorate the Green Vault.

Both the corals and the photographs are borrowed from the SKD's collections. However, in Movement, they change their places, sometimes being the main focus and sometimes moving to the background. This motion calls to mind various shifting modes of representation both inside and outside of art institutions.
